CARES Team
The CARES (College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Research Excellence Support) PreAward Team aims to advance faculty and staff research excellence by delivering high quality proposal and research development support to strengthen investigators’ capacity to pursue innovative ideas and submit competitive impactful proposals.
The team provides comprehensive support for all sponsored funding proposals within the college. Researchers are encouraged to engage the team early in the proposal development process. Early engagement allows for more thorough, timely and effective assistance throughout proposal preparation and submission.

Supported Departments and Units
The CARES Team supports all CALS, CHHS, ENG, and LAS faculty and staff in the following departments/units: ABE, AGEDS, AGRON, ANSCI, CARD, CCUR, ECON, FSHN, GDCB, NREM, HORT, PPEM and SOCCJ, and provides backup support to other departments and units as needed.
(CALS and LAS faculty and staff in the jointly administered departments BBMB, EEOB, and STAT rely on the LASERS (LAS External Research Support) Team (lasers@iastate.edu) as their first point of contact for pre-award support.)
Search for Funding Opportunities
Sign up to receive the CARES Team bi-weekly emails featuring select research development events and funding opportunities. The funding opportunities are also posted under the Upcoming Funding Opportunities tab on the top of this page.
The Team can assist with intensive searches for specific funding opportunities. These searches encompass federal agencies, foundations, industry, and other funding sources. Email cares-team@iastate.edu for assistance.
